I am Vikas Kumar, an author, language educator, and entrepreneur dedicated to making language learning more structured, comprehensive, and affordable. I am the founder of My Language Classes, an educational platform offering learning resources, books, courses, and instructor-led online classes.

My work focuses on language learning, communication, and the development of educational resources that help learners build a strong understanding of languages. I write books, publish articles, and explore the ideas that shape how people learn languages and use them in everyday life.

Through my work, I cover English, Spanish, Japanese, and English for Spanish Speakers (Inglés). I also write about broader questions surrounding language learning, including the challenges learners face, the role of communication, and the place of artificial intelligence in language education.

My aim is to make reliable learning resources more accessible and help learners understand what it takes to develop meaningful language skills. This purpose guides both my writing and my work through My Language Classes.

My Philosophy of Language Learning

I believe grammar is the foundation of language learning. It gives learners the structure they need to understand how a language works, form sentences, and express meaning. A strong understanding of grammar helps learners organise their knowledge and develop their ability to use a language accurately.

However, learning a language involves more than studying its rules. Vocabulary, reading, writing, listening, speaking, and regular practice all play important roles in developing language ability. Learners need to understand grammatical structures, recognise words in context, follow what others say, express their own ideas, and apply their knowledge in different situations.

I also believe there is an important difference between learning a language as an academic subject and learning it as a means of communication. Preparing for an examination may be one goal, but developing a language for everyday use requires a broader understanding. It involves reading, conversations, relationships, cultural experiences, and the ability to communicate in personal and professional settings.

Culture is an essential part of this process. Languages reflect the histories, customs, values, and social practices of the people who use them. Understanding these influences helps learners interpret expressions, recognise differences in communication, and understand why people may express the same idea in different ways.

Language learning also requires sustained effort. Progress is not always steady or easy to recognise. Learners may make rapid improvements at first, reach a plateau, struggle with familiar concepts, or lose confidence when their efforts do not produce visible results. These experiences are part of the learning process and deserve greater attention in language education.

My philosophy brings these ideas together. Learning a language requires a strong grammatical foundation, the development of multiple skills, regular practice, cultural understanding, and a realistic view of the effort involved. Learners deserve resources and guidance that support them throughout this process, including the stages when progress becomes difficult.

These beliefs guide my writing, the books I publish, and the educational work I lead through My Language Classes. They also form the basis of my broader work on How Language Learning Really Works, where I explore the stages, challenges, and experiences that shape a learner’s progress.
